Accomodation

Do I have to stay overnight before or after the tour?

Since Husky Point Røros is not that far from Trondheim (e.g.), with shorter tours it is possible to arrive and depart within the same day.

Where can I stay the night before or after the tour?

You will find hotels and AirBnB offers nearby in Røros or Os. Or you might book an overnight stay at our kennel.

Where you find us / transport

How do I get to Husky Point Røros by car?

Husky Point Røros AS is located on road 28, in Hedmark. It's 22km from Røros to the kennel, beginning at Osloveien. Take the Fv30 and after 12km you go on in the direction of Drevsjø, turning to the left into road 28 (follow the sign "Alaskan Husky Tours). Follow the road for about 9,5km and you'll find our kennel on the left side.

Can I travel by plane or train?

Yes, there is a small airport in Røros and a train station in Os. From Oslo Gardemoen you fly about one hour to Røros (Air Leap https://www.airleap.se/en). The train (https://www.vy.no/en) from the airport in Oslo takes only 4,5 hours to the station in Os (one change in Hamar) or from Trondheim it's 2,5 hours. We can pick you up either at the train station in Os or at the airport in Røros for an extra charge (max. 4 persons).

If I book your pickup service, when do I have to be ready?

We will be at your hotel 30 minutes before the tour starts. So if you booked a tour starting 10 a.m., please be ready at 9.30 a.m.. For pickup at the airport or train station just inform us about your arrival time.

Greet our dogs

Can I greet the dogs before or after the tour? If yes, what do I have to consider?

You are welcome to meet our dogs. They are all friendly and love to be petted. Some of them might jump at you to get your attention. So you should approach them slowly and please watch/accompany your small children. There are a few dogs that are very shy and cautious of strangers. In such case, please don't urge them but leave them alone. Furthermore, please don't run at the kennel. It might make the dogs nervous.

By the way, they also like a litte praise. So give them an extra cuddle after a tour and tell them that they are awesome.

Winter sled dog tours

Can I drive my own sled with huskies?

Yes, of course, but to drive your own sled you should be at least 15 years old and in good physical condition to be able to balance out the sled, brake where necessary and maybe help the dogs uphill. Before the tour, we will give a short instruction on how to drive.

I'd love to go dogsledding but don't want to drive myself. Is that possible, too?

On most tours you can just sit on a sled. But please note that you can only sit on a guide's sled because having a passenger on the sled needs some experience on our trails. Therefore it is also not possible that two guests share one sled. Overnight tours require that you drive your own sled.

I am not sure if my clothes are warm enough for the tour. Can I borrow something from you, if not?

Don't worry, we provide warm overalls and winter boots. Warm socks, caps and gloves are also available. But please bring your own scarf/buff.

Can I bring a camera?

When you are a passenger on the sled, you are welcome to bring a camera and take pictures or videos during the tour. If you drive yourself and want to use a camera, we recommend to use an action cam which is fastened on your head or upper body because you should have both hands on the handlebar. We cannot refund or look for smartphones or cameras that get lost on the trail. But we might also stop during the tour to take a picture of you with your smartphone/camera.

Is there anything else I should bring along?

As mentioned above, we provide warm clothes. You need to bring a scarf, ski googles or sunglasses, sun protection, and maybe your camera.

For overnight stays at our wilderness cabin, please note that there is no electricity or running water. Therefore please bring a headlight, a charger/power bank (if necessary), a small toilet bag (with toothbrush etc.) and also some warm extra clothes. You can use your own sleeping bag or borrow one of ours for an extra charge.

If you book a sled dog expedition, you have to bring your own food for breakfast and dinner for one night at our kennel.

Summer cart tours

On cart tours, do I drive the cart or do I sit on one?

Both are possible. Drivers must be at least 15 years old. Younger children between 6 and 14 years have to sit on the guides's cart.

Do cart tours depend on the weather?

In some ways yes. When it is warm, we can drive but only short tours with stops to let the dogs drink. During hot days the dogs are not available for tours. In case of rain before or during the tour, we provide rain clothes and shoes for free, so your own clothes won't get dirty.

Can I bring a camera?

When you are a passenger on the cart, you are welcome to bring a camera and take pictures or videos during the tour. If you drive yourself and want to use a camera, we recommend to use an action cam which is fastened on your head or upper body because you must have both hands on the handlebar with the handbrakes. We cannot refund or look for smartphones or cameras that get lost on the trail. But we might also stop during the tour to take a picture of you with your smartphone/camera.

Is there anything else I need to bring along?

Sun protection (sun glasses, sun cream) might be a good idea, although we only drive short tours.

Summer hiking tours

Is it easy to hike with dogs?

Well, that depends a bit on the dog. We usually use a waistbelt when hiking with a dog. So you will notice quickly whether the dog keeps your pace or pulls you. The latter may be helpful when going uphill, on flat ground a pulling dog probably makes you walk faster. So you might experience a hiking speed different from what you're used to.

I am not sure about hiking with dogs. Can we go without one?

Yes, we can go hiking without any dog. Or only the guide can bring one, so you're as our guest may meet and learn about the dog anyway. Also, if you book, for example, a tour for two persons, you may choose one person going with a husky and the other without. Then during the tour both of you can try going with a dog.

What do I have to bring?

For our one day tours, please have good hiking boots/shoes with you. Furthermore you'll need your daypack with something to drink in it (mind the temperatures and pack enough beverages), also rain and windproof clothes, a warm sweater/jacket for longer breaks, sun protection (sun glasses, cream), and don't forget your camera. We provide a small lunch but you might add a snack (e.g. nuts, chocolate).

For the 2 days tours, also good hiking shoes/boots are required. Your rucksack should contain something to drink for the first day, rain clothing, warm/windproof clothes, maybe some clothes to change, sun protection (sun glasses, cream), perhaps a charger/powerbank (there is no electricity at the cabin), toiletries, and don't forget your camera. You may bring your own sleeping bag or rent one from us for an extra charge. We provide food on both days and beverages on the second day. But you might want to pack a snack, too.
